Post help on choosing a router/hub

hi, ive been using linux for about 3 weeks now and really love it... i am running a 2wire Homeportal 1000 residential gateway with the wireless home pna have the homeportal 1000 connected to my linux box and the pna connected to a box running winxp.
what i would like to do is get rid of the PNA and run the network on ethernet cards. i would prefer wireless but im also looking for a very cheap way to do this. what would i need to do this? i also have a Efficiant Speedstream 5360 ADSL modem, could i ditch the gateway and run the speedstream to connect both of the boxes?
