HELP! No Network!! AMD64

Hello,
Ive just installed Gentoo AMD64 version with kernel 2.6.5. I've managed to solve every problem i've had and have gotten to the Linux login, but I need to now emerge KDE. Heres my problem. When I boot, everything loads and is [OK] except for this one:

Code:
Bringing eth0 up via DHCP [!!]
ERROR: Problem starting needed services
            "netmount" was not started

And then when I log in, I tried pinging goole.ca, and my server, but nothing happens! Is there anyway I can fix this problem?

I have a Realtek 8139C and it is installed in the kernel, and I have my network .conf file set up correctly.

ASUS SK8N nForce 3 (On-board ethernet disabled, use PCI card)
AMD Opteron 146 2.0 ghz
512mb DDR Ram
Realtek 8139C network card
ATI Radeon 9600 Video card

Hmmm Gentoo 2004.2

Hi,

i am looking for to install a distro for AMD64, an easy one...amd free.
I read that the Gentoo V. 2004.2 solved some Nic problems so Idownloaded that one and it seems to detect everything fine.

I don t feel like installing Gentoo since it seems way to manycode lines to type in before it loads the desktop...
How much time did you spend before geting access to the desktop ?

Thanks
Eric

Do you have a DHCP server on your network?

If you type, at the command prompt
Code:
/sbin/ifconfig -a
what does it say?

Groetjes,

i've manage to solve the problem...might as well put it here for reference..

from your LiveCD, do

Code:
# emerge hotplug
# rc-update add hotplug default
if this also fails, try adding

Code:
append = "noapic pci=noacpi"
in your lilo.conf
