HELP! no im client works with yahoo in fedora, centos & ubuntu (firewall is down)

Hi everyone,

I cannot connect to yahoo from pidgin/gaim/kopete in several Linux distributions: Fedora 7 (x64; i386), CentOS 5 (x64), Ubuntu Feisty (i386).
I checked with www_meebo_com as follows: I've logged in my account from meebo, and then started gaim/pidgin; meebo reports that I've been connected from another location, but gaim/pidgin didn't report that I'm connected.

I made sure the firewall was down, so that it wasn't a security problem, in my opinion.

Yahoo's servers cannot be suspected of malfunctioning, since I was able to connect using my other PC.

I can't figure out what is wrong, since Windows XP and Fedora 5 are both able to connect to yahoo, but not the other OSs.

I presume the hardware configuration makes the difference - I have an AMD Sempron 2800+ (64 bit).

I used wireshark to sniff packets and it reports DNS packets as having either wrong checksum or TCP offload checksum (and I don't understand what it means).

Please help!
Thanks in advance!
