I would like to experiment with setting up an ldap server on ubuntu. I am having some trouble. It doesn't seem to try to authenticate users using ldap, I just get username not found when doing su - user or logging in.
Client systems also don't seem to be able to find the server, but ldapsearch works.
Is there a good howto out there as I think I need to try it again from the start.
That is the one that I followed, among others. But I don't seem to be able to get the system going.
LDAP Account Manager shows the accounts but I cannot seem to be able to get actual logins going and I don't seem to get any errors reported in logs, or anything very useful in logs.
Maybe I will just try again from scratch, perhaps I just missed something and have since fiddled with it to the point where it will be easier to start again.
Hey, I tried that guide too. I nearly got it to work with NFS for the home dirs, but its not really stable. Problems/error with it not being able to contact the server consistently.
This isn't mission critical so I am going to have another crack at it soon.
My sort of plan is to share home/login from my home server with the two desktops that I have.
