Hey all,
So I am new to linux/computing however I am looking for a comprehensive introduction and reference for learning about networks, network design,subnetworks,the "Internet" tcp/ip, packets, headers, etc etc etc.

I have seen the "linux network administrators guide" but would prefer something a bit more general, less OS based with more emphasis on general network fundamentals.

Being *not so rich* id prefer to find a 'free' resource online, however I there is a great text out there suggest it and I will get it.

The guides for taking the CompTIA Network+ exam fit your need exactly. You don't necessarily need to take the exam as it's still a great resource.
