Getting through a port block

Hello All,

I live in an apartment complex that provides the internet access to us. The problem is that they did not forward any of the ports so that i can access my server from anywhere else. The refuse to forward those ports for me. My question is if anyone knows about a free network that provides vpn access for linux, so i can use that ip in order to host my server. Or if there is any alternative, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You could look into using OpenVPN (http://openvpn.sourceforge.net/). Shouldn't take more than a hour or so to setup, and it will traverse though a NATed environment with no port forwarding. You just setup up, and start the clients on the two computers, and a connection should be made allowing you access to your LAN.

The problem is that the border router that is installed here does not allow incoming port requests. Will the open vpn work if i setup the program withing the same lan? Furthermore, is there an isp or network that i can connect to for free that will provide me a network or anything. Like does sbc global or some other broadband connection provide vpn access for its residential customers? I would love not to have to get a seperate ISP but if i have to....

Like I said with OpenVPN you dont have to do any port forwarding. you just need both clients on at the same time, and a conneciton will be established

Yea, but there would not really be any point in this other than encrypting the traffic seeing how both computers would already be on the same LAN.
