getting ip from devices plugged to the network ...
Hi
I'm sorry for the unspecified question, but I know pretty nothing about networking'n'stuff.
Here's the thing. I got this linksys wireless router that was somewhere in a box for a few years ... now I want to see whether I can bring it back to life. I know, that I put some different software on it and that it doesn't have it's original ip assigned any more. but I can't remember which ip that would be.
So for starters I just wanted to put the original software back on to see if that thing still works. but how to do that?
first I got no clue how to determine the adress it is listening to.
once that'd be figured out I guess I'd have to ssh to it and install this ____.bin file I downloaded somehow ....
could someone help or at least point me to a good direction.
thanx anyway & cheers to the hopefully happy new year :-)
What's the type of the Linksys router? You could always reset it to factory defaults, how that's done should be somewhere in the manual but normally, depending on the type you have you'd have a reset button. If you press that button while powering on the router, you could get back to factory defaults.
Then you can find out on the internet what the default IP assignments for that router are (something like 192.168.1.1), but most important DHCP will be enabled. So if you just connect by cable one computer, set your NIC to DHCP and see what you get, then you'd have what you need to access the routers software through a browser. Default login again is something depending on make and type, would be something like admin/admin.
Once logged in you should have a page that allows you to update the firmware on your Linksys from which you can point to the file you have downloaded to updated the firmware. Make sure you get the correct file.
the reset does not respond. but: i figured out, that i need to be on the same "network" to access it.
i was on 192.168.0.100 static
so i assigned 192.168.1.2 and was able to access 192.168.1.1 where i found the software I previously (2y ago) installed ...
so really, I don't know anything about networks, haha!
