FTP error msg: Can't connect to host

Hello:

I am new Linux networking. My infrastructure architect has given me full priviliges to work with my lab server. Now I've root as user and full admin priviliges.

Right now I am trying to FTP from my local desktop to my liux lab server (SuSE 11 SP2) where it was giving login failed even I had typed correct password. Also, tried with Hummingbird FTP tool but the error message given as "Can't connect to host with FTP error = -2".

Please advise how to I go ahead to set the correct configuration settings. TCP/IP port given as 22 in Hummingbird FTP.

Are you getting to the point where you (or your ftp client software) is handing off a username and password, or are you unable to reach the host?

Are you sure that the server is actually running an ftp daemon?

The issue could be many things, so please provide more info and I'll be more than happy to try and help.

Hello

- To start, can you ping your linux lab server?
- Are you sure that the ftp deamon is started?
- You just try on the command line to run(provided that ftp is installed):
Quote:
ftp <@IP of your server>
