fsck problem with 2.6.1-mm5 kernel

Have the same problem under both Debian (Knoppix 3.3 19-Nov-2003 on HDD) and SuSE 9.0:

Downloaded 2.6.0 and aplied patches to get to 2.6.1-mm5

make xconfig
(amongst other things)flag to compile into kernel ext3 and reiserfs
make-kpkg clean (or make clean under SuSE)
make-kpkg kernel-image modules-images (or make under SuSE)
dpkg -i of resulting .deb (or make install under SuSE)
checked I had the new kernel ready for LILO (and rerean lilo -v)

when I boot the new kernel it goes fine UNTIL the fsck

It then gives an error (tried both on a ext3 and on a reiserfs / filesystems) but if I give the root password and remount r/w the / I can see and change all of the files without problems.

If I reboot the original 2.4.22-xfs (or SuSE counterpart) the fsck says everything is clean.

WHAT IS HAPENING ???

Thank you very much for any help.

Bob

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

Thanks!
