Flushing DNS w/RH9

I am sure this is probably something simply, i need to ditch it so that it gets the new IP for my site, my ISPs DNS hasn't been updated, but changing the server to a friends worked on a WXP machine after flushing the DNS. Any thoughts? Reboot did nothing, network service restart = nothing, and ifconfig eth0 down, up also nothing. Those were the easiest and quickest things i could think of.

I'm a newbie of course, but what about just removing the entries from:
/etc/host.conf

hmm, doesn't seem like the stuff i am looking for is in there, guess i'll keep looking.
