Well I'm on a slackware 11 server that gives ip adresses to a lan through an unmanaged switch(dlink des 1024d)... and I want to know how to find the port a device is connected to, based on IP, is this posible? if yes, how?

Set up a large file transfer to the IP in question, find the port on the switch with the rapidly blinking light, and unplug the cable. Did the file transfer stop? If so, you got the right one. If not, try again.

You can just ping the node and unplug cables until you find the one that stops ping.

The ping or transfer or change speed (should change color on switch) idea would do if you can get close to the switch. Or the unplug.
I almost suggested mac or arp but I think that won't do.
