Question Fedora Core 1 as router but realtek ethernet cards don't activate

Ok. Here's a kind of challenge :

I installed Fedora Core 1 on a 166Mhz with 92MB RAM and a 3.2GB hard drive. No soundcard, floppy drive, USB ports.

I am mad, I know that.

But since the computer came for free, i decided to do something useful with it: a router + file sharing + xmule downloader with maybe VNC on so I don't have to use a keyboard & mouse with it.
I have a cable internet connection.

The install went ok ( I tried other distros, but the CD-ROM froze, for some reason...except for mandrake), I asked for all the stuff I needed ( NFS, SAMBA, Internet connections, networking...) and it went ok.

KDE was a natural abuse , so I installed GNOME instead. And fluxbox. No stresses here.

But now for the fun part:

I have two ethernet cards ( Realtek 8029 as eth0 and a 8139 as eth1 ) that were installed, but not activated. I looked for some answers here, but none helped much, except for the fact that I don't have a dhcp module installed ( etc/sysconfig/dhcpd ).
So, I tried to make a connection the "Windows way" thru the Red Hat Configuration wizard. It went ok, made another connection, tried to activate eth0 and gave out this response:

SIOCSIFFLAGS: cannot assign requested address

Naturally, being a complete in these matters, became desperate, and not knowing what else to do, came here asking for help. Can you help me ?
