Ethernet Settings

I'm new to setting up Linux so please be kind.

I installed Red Hat 9.0 tonight and went to set up my internet settings but haven't had any luck. I installed my NIC driver(it now shows up in Hardware Browser as Broadcom 4400) but whenever I attempt to activate it it fails. Is there a step-by-step instruction guide or does anyone have any steps that might lead me in the right direction?

I've just been there. the best way to configure it is in the terminal. hit ctrl+alt+f1 to go into a terminal (f7 to get back to your gui). log in and type "lsmod" post what the output is and the output of "more /etc/modules.conf" is your nic pci or isa? do you know what chip it uses? there's probably a nice eye pleasing way to do it in the xwindows but i just didn't ever like those methods. oh and what do you mean "attempt to activate it" ?
