ethereal for linux

Anyone know why there are warnings on the ethereal.com site (www.ethereal.com/distribution/rpms/)against downloading their rpm's? I need ethereal for my linux network, but am hesitant to fire up one of these packages until I know why the good folks at ethereal are telling me not to.

Which distro do you have?

It says download the ones provided by your distribution..

Anyway, it won't break your linux if you install these but this has to be done only if you do not find the ones for your distro.

It also seems that the last file is dated from 2003 so it is very old! And Ethereal has had a lot of security problem but its a wonderful tool
