eth0 config lost at boot

Ok I know this was probably already answerd, but I'm having ni luck finding it here or on google.

How do I make my network setup permanet in Debian 3.0?
When I do "ifconfig eth0 1.2.3.4 netmask 255.255.255.0 up" it works fine, until I have to reboot, when I have to do it all over agin.

I've checked my /etc/network/intrfaces and everything is fine there, but I don't know how to make it activate on boot.

I'm not a Debian user, my distro is Slackware but I think maybe I can help you after all. I had a similar problem, I had to change the mtu of my nic every time after rebooting my machine so I simple added the command into /etc/rc.d/rc.local and that solve my problem (in my case "ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492" without quotes). You should look for something similar in your distro. I have no idea how to make it permanent but al least you won't have to type anything after reboot . Please, let us know if you succeded.
