Email clients wont work unless dig smtp, pop servers

Hi ....

I've got a laptop with suse 9.1 pro in a wireless lan. I can only send/receive emails fron gui clients (kmail or evolution) if I first run a terminal and dig smtp and pop servers. Once I've done that everything works fine. If I exit the client, I have to re-dig before next use otherwise it wont work again. (Cannot connect to smtp/pop server messages). Postfix is run on startup.

I'm using a dlink adsl router and everything is dhcp controlled. The other boxes ( both Mac OSX ) work fine.

I'm not much more than a newbie as far as linux is concerned and any tips as to what the problem may or where to look be would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Roman

Forgot ... before dig-ing, mail log file says cant connect to either server and gives an address of 1.0.0.0 ?????
