Anybody got any ideas?
I have set up simple email for a small network using linux mandrake 8.1 postfix and the imap server which includes the POP3 server etc. I can send and recieve internet email when logged on to the email server. However when I set up an email client that connects into the POP3 server that I have running it fails to find any new emails even though authorisation seems to be happening and the client checks for new emails. The client is Outlook express6.
Is there anything I am overlooking?
Thanks in advance.
John
Are you getting any error messages in OE6? It sounds as if the client is actually NOT connecting, but you would get an error message if that were the case. Are the usernames and passwords ok? Sorry, I run sendmail, not postfix, but I will try to help! Are ports 25 and 110 open and listening on the mail server?
I struck a simmilar problem!
I have postfix and ipop3d up and running. I see in my logfiles that mail gets delivered into my Maildir. I also see in my logfiles that i get a valid pop3 connect, but NO MESSAGES are served. I can even see the messages on my server in my Maildir. But my MUA still gets the message no mail... ??? Anny Idea why i can`t pop my mail?
My problem unfortunately persists, regardless of wether i try to pop via k-mail or via TheBat from my WinBox... i always get the message no mail... nor error no nothing. In postfix info logfile i see the pop connect, no messages, but in my in box MAildir i see new mail...
The permissiones on my dir are user:usergroup an dset to 700, i can`t find anything wrong...

Rep:
try doing this at a prompt
telnet 'mailserver' 110
when it connects
type in user *your mail username*
then pass *your mail password*
and see how many messages are on the server
there is a way to view the messages straignt from the server but i forget the command off hand
when finished just type quit and hit enter
if there are any messages, then it is your software, otherwise, perhaps you just aren't recieving email or perhaps the mail server is to blame
I tryed it and got the reply:
+OK Mailbox open, 0 messages
The MUA definitly leaves the messages, because i can see them in my Maildir/new/number.servername ...
why is the pop server (i`m using ipop3d) not noticing that there are messages. Is there a confog file anywhere i must tell the via xinetd started ipopd where the heck to find my messages?
