dumb samba questions

I've got two FC3 linux boxes on our windows network, both using nearly identical
smb.conf files (with just the host name changed as far as I can tell)...

One comunicates with the network & prints on the shared printer just fine.
The other doesn't.

I've updated both SAMBA and CUPS using YUM on each box, but no change.
Hmmmm....any ideas?

Here's my smb.conf file. Any thoughts on things to change? How can i alter this file so that other's on the windows network won't be asked for a username and p/w to log in?

So the main problem is accessing shares on a different computer? This is independent of smb.conf, and has everything to do with permissions on the other computer, networking, and similar issues. Are the two machines relatively identical in all other respects? In other little "quirks" noted?

To remove the username/password requests, you'll need to do one of 3 things.

You could either allow guest access and all to all shares, you could make sure the username and password the machines are logged in with are the same as the samba username and password there, or you could use a Windows-style domain (either SAMBA as PDC or SAMBA joining a domain).

thanks for the post! I'll work on the guest access thing.

Got SAMBA & printing to work...dumb fix. I went in and deleted everything in the smb.conf file with gedit run as SU. Looks like
the SAMBA utility under Gnome then set things up right. whoohoo! I can print! I can print!
