DNS Restart

hello,

we have server with like 20k domains in ns.

sometime server crashes and we restart it then we cannot access the domains by name (for example from browser). by IP it works.so all services are running (apache/sql..all). also bind. when i do "rndc status" it says its upa nd running and show correct number of loaded zones. but still we cannot access the sites. we usually can later after few hours. but WHAT CAUSES THIS DELAY ?? does anyone know?

In my experience, BIND can take a long time to process large domain lists. One a box with 20 or so domains it won't start resolving until it's been running for about 1 minute. Another box we had (much faster processor), it would take 5-10 minutes before the 300 domains it had would start resolving. Wouldn't surprise me to see well over an hour on 20k domains. Perhaps the bigger problem is your server crashing?
