Q1: Can you ping your name server (172.20.29.25)?

Based on what you've said, it's entirely possible that maybe your wlan doesn't even have an IP address (/sbin/ifconfig will tell you). Or perhaps it doesn't have a valid gateway (/sbin/ifconfig will tell you that, too).

Q2: Run ifconfig:

a) Do you have a valid IP address?
b) Can you ping that IP's gateway?
c) Can you ping your DNS name server?

If your yum repository is actually an external address, and if hard-coding it's IP into /etc/hosts fixed it, it's a good bet that a), b) and probably even c) will be "true". But please check them!

Q3: Is the "name server" actually a DNS server?

Use "dig" to investigate further:

'Hope that helps .. PSM

You better check connectivity with your DNS Server. Check with network administrator. Next check the DNS Server whether the name service is up and running.
