DNS - from Win2K AD to Suse Linux

I have a windows 2000 active directory dns system right now. I am kind of sick of the pricing just to have 2 dns servers. I am also sick of re-installing every 6 months because windows decides to not work anymore. I have purchased Suse 9.1 and so far love it. Unfortunately I do not know much about it.

I would like to migrade my Win2000 Active Directory DNS to Named on my new Suse servers. There is no export in Win2K of course

Any ideas? I have to WAY too many domain names to do this by hand... in the thousands.

Thanks much!

Is it just a DNS / Active Directory server or is it an IIS (web server) too?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the DNS entries should be in a plain text file. It shouldn't be much work to copy that to a linux box. As far as Active Directory, i think you know there's no substitute for that on Linux without paying quite a bit.

It is just a DNS server. I just want to get rid of Windows for DNS and use only Linux. The only few linux or novell boxes I have NEVER even have to be rebooted.

I don't need active directory. I only need DNS. I set up active directory only because it was how I could set up a domain on the win2k box.

I also tried copying the dns files (for each zone) over to the linux box, but it wouldn't recognize them. Someone else checked it out for me, and said that microsoft uses a format that isn't 100% compatible with bind, but I am not sure of that.

Thanks for your help.
