I am trying to setup sendmail on my linux box which is connected to a NAT enabled router. I have the router configured so it forwards port 25 to my linux box. Right now I use /etc/hosts to resolve IP's.
But if I were to use outlook or such, I probably have to use something like....
smtp.myIPaddress or smtp.mydomain
Do I have setup DNS for my LAN so that the smtp is resolved to the correct linux machine that is running sendmail?
What about external machines. If they were to use smtp.mydomain.com and my ISP just resolves the mydomain.com part? how does the smtp part get resolved. Do I have to set up DNS for my lan??
