Directory File Sharing

How does one set up there machine with file sharing like windows 95/98/etc.. ? In previous installations of linux, using KDE, I had used file sharing in the konquorer by selecting the properties and selecting the tab for file sharing. From there I could set the port and transfer speed. In my installation of SuSE 8.1 this was not installed, and I really do not know what the package or adjustment is called.
