different VLANs in one route

Hi guys, help is needed for some bridge and VLAN setups.

Code:
Server==========Station 1============Station 2==============PC
VLAN 4000 | br0: eth0 eth1 |br0: eth0 eth1 |10.26.255.147
10.18.255.13 | |
VLAN 4005 | br0.4000:eth0.4000 | eth0.4000: 10.18.255.8
10.26.255.13 | eth1.4000 |
                       10.18.255.21
OK, let's make thing simpler

The 4000 VLAN is needed for both S1 and S2 station management, which are Linux based acting as a bridge in this situation. S1 and S2 should be accessible from the server sit on the S1 side, not to be accessible from the PC side. I assume the VLAN4000 need to be un/tagged at br0.4000.
The VLAN 4005 is for another kind of data only. It should be accessible from the PC, to connect to the Server.

We are expecting to be able to connect/ping the 10.18.255.8 (S1) and 10.18.255.21 (S2) from the Server connected to the ethernet port eth0 of the S1 which have VLAN ip 10.18.255.13

We can reach 10.18.255.8 from 10.18.255.13 but not able to 10.18.255.21

Any idea? Thanks....

Ashan

Hi Ashan,

I dont have a great deal of experience with bridging on linux but my networking skills are ok so I'll give it a shot.

The first thing I noticed: according to your post you've added ip addresses to your eth(x) interfaces, I believe your ip config should be added to the bridge interfaces themselves not the interfaces bound to the bridge. Could you please try modifying accordingly before we try anything else ?

thanks

kbp

Hello ashan. Could you post the commands you used to create the bridges and VLANs. I think you need to have the vlans configured first. Then bridge them together.

http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lar...q1/018537.html

There may be separate problem with bridging vlans in Linux, dealing with the spanning tree protocol.
This one is 2 1/2 years old however:

I'd recommend using these terms in Google:
linux bridging vlans
