Dhcp


I am getting my web connection through a win box on my LAN. I just setup this rh9 system, but i am a bit confused as to what to put in my /etc/hosts file.

Anyone help me out here?

to /etc/hosts add:

xx.xx.xx.xx computer_name

replace the xx's of course. And then you would setup you gateway as the windows box.

But this sounds very wierd! You should connect the linux box to the net and run a DHCP/firewall/samba etc. for your windows pc's! Why connect through windows!

yea thats what Im doing now, manually entering the hostname and ip in the /etc/hosts file

im asking is there any other way to catch the dhcp and connect to the web

At the prompt type dhclient ethX. Change the X to reflect the proper interface.
