Hi,
I am newbie to Linux.
I have a dual-boot system with Windows XP and Redhat7.2
I can connect to the net through XP. But I am not able to connect to the net through Linux. I have a DSL (Verizon) connection which uses PPPoE. The ethernet card is detected but then it gives an error which says "Determining IP information.. failed".
I could do with some step-by-step help here.
Thanks,
Santosh

There is another piece of information that I had missed out. I have two computers connected to the net through a HUB. The net connection is provided by Verizon(PPPoE). Although I am new to networking I believe the computers are given their IP addresses through DHCP.
in the anaconda-ks.cfg file I have a line which states
network --device eth0 --bootproto dhcp

are you purchasing a second ip from the ISP if your going thru a hub..? sounds dumb i know but need to make sure to help out. and if so, is the other computer connecting ok ?
Although I havent explicitly purchased a second IP from my ISP I can connect two different computers to the net at the same time. I get a different IP address for each of the computer.

So is it a hub or a cable/dsl router or some sort of router to share the connection, cause you shouldn't be getting two ip's from your isp if your not purchasing them, unless they are local network ips that start with like 192.168.x.x ?
if its a router, sounds like if you have dhcp enabled, your card is not properly communicating with it then. is it possible to setup a static ip to test or what not ??

It is a hub and although technically I shouldnt be getting two ip's I seem to be getting them. And they are in the range 138.89.x.x
the hub gives a lan ip address to each of the comps and they are in the range 169.254.x.
