I have a new install of Debian 10 Buster. I installed Xrdp But is not working. The server looks good and tries to connect but it only gets as far as a black screen before shutting down.
I am using a Wi-Fi connection and it looks a little strange. Each time I reboot and login it adds another Wi-Fi icon on the top status bar. I currently have 7 Wi-Fi icons displayed all showing the same connection. Don't know if this is problem indicator or just a new OS glitch.
All of the RDP controls look good but I am no expert.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I disabled Wi-Fi network and connected wired connection only. XRDP displays the login screen. Entered user ID and password. tries to connect about 10 seconds and then shut down. Basically, no change.
I now have 10 network connection icons on the top status bar. I cannot see any way to clear this.

Reason: Information update
I have Buster installed in an ancient laptop which has a strange graphics setup Unusual screen. It works but the networking notification icon is unreliable, sometimes not visible, but the empty space produces the data I expect when I click it. None of the other applications suffer any problems so there may be something about networking that is 'fussy'.
You may like to experiment with another remote desktop application in order to try and identify where your issue lies. I use NoMachine. Its free, works across all platforms, connects audio and offers file transfer facilities. I would not be without it.
I have determined that the problem with Buster for my machine is the network manager is self. Debian stretch does not use a network manager. In trying to resolve the issues with Buster I also discovered the file manager has problems. In trying to open and edit files I received strange UTF-8 format errors.
I have reinstalled Debian 9 stretch. Problem solved.
You realize Debian 9 is completely, utterly, end of life with no security updates?
Also, Debian 10 most definitely CAN use NetworkManager, as I have used network manager as my primary management app since moving from wicd in Debian 7 or 8.
I am very much aware that Debian 9 is at the end of life. From my perspective, this does not matter. The system is working as I need it to and no further updates are needed.
I read somewhere that Debian and LinuxCNC are teaming up. This is great news for CNC'ers. It is important to understand the purpose of CNC if you are going to work in that arena. My machine is not a desktop. It is an Enhanced Machine Controller physically connected to other machines with the sole purpose of running those machines with the LinuxCNC app. The only thing I need from Debian other than LinuxCNC is Wi-Fi and RDP to connect to my primary system and a simple text editor for G code.
Busters network does work but with issues, RDP does not work and Wi-Fi has issues as listed above. Also the simple flat file text editor, mousepad, has UTF-8 format errors. These 3 issues render Buster unusable for me.
