DDNS (BIND+DHCPD) forward map time out

I've had BIND and DHCPD configured to provide Dynamic DNS on my network for a long time with out any problems.

However, I recently purchased a HP Deskjet 3055a and I've started to notice an intermittant issue surrounding the hostname being assigned to it.

syslog:
Code:
...
dhcpd: Unable to add forward map from eth-192-168-1-.home.lan. to 192.168.1.62: timed out
dhcpd: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.1.62 from XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX via eth0
dhcpd: DHCPACK on 192.168.1.62 to XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX (eth-192-168-1-) via eth0
...
Because the printer doesn't broadcast a hostname it is supposed to be assigned a hostname based on it's IP address.

dhcpd.conf:
Code:
...
ddns-hostname = pick-first-value (option fqdn.hostname, option host-name, concat ("eth-", binary-to-ascii (10, 8, "-", leased-address)));
...
In this case the printer should be assigned a hostname of eth-192-168-1-62.

Given that the printer is being assigned an IP address (and I can print to it) I can only assume that this has something to do with the leased-address variable.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Can you not assign the printer a static IP and save your troubles? I have never heard of anyone give a device such as a printer a dynamic IP.

I finally figured out that the hostname was too long for the printer to handle.

I gave up trying to set a static IP with the buggy web interface and set a fixed address via DHCPD instead.

Problem solved.
