Question Convert a WiFi-router into a simple 4-port ethernet 'switch' ?

Can that be done ?

I need a simple 4-port 10baseT switch, wired to the Cable-TV-"router"-with-only-one-10baseT-port !

The COX cable gurus 'updated' my service to suit my new 'smart-TV',
That tells everything you need to know !

So, the only-1-port is wired to my WiFi-router #1-port, and all our wireless devices work at acceptable speeds.
If I plug my 10baseT laptop into my WiFi-router #2-port, the port-light blinks, but a logon attempt causes the TV-router to freeze.

I also tried to configure a 2nd WiFi router as a wifi<"range-extender">wifi.
The port-in-use lights OK, but any logon attempt caused the TV-router to freeze.

It seems the COX router has "one-wired-device-only" service ???
? makes no sense.

A neighbor offered a ASUS EA-N66 with 3 modes; Access-point, Range-extender, 10baseT-adapter,
plus, the mating ASUS RT-N53 WiFi base router with 4-ports.
Anyone have experience with these devices ?

Any help is appreciated.

If you turn off a router's DHCP server, guest access and do not use its WAN port it basically acts like a switch and WiFI access point if so desired.

What was updated to suit your smart TV?

What do you mean by TV-router freeze?

Did you or the cable guy wire everything together?

Is this a combination MODEM/router from COX or separate MODEM and a separate router you purchased. If separate what is the make/model?

If they are separate devices make sure the MODEM is connected to the WAN port of the router.

At first thought if your laptop is configured with a static IP address it could be the same as the TV's which might appear to be a freeze if your streaming video. Typically you only get one IP address from the cable ISP so if the MODEM is plugged into a LAN port instead of the WAN port only one device will work at a time. Although that would also prevent your wifi device from working but they might be switching back to LTE mode too.

It could also be your router is bad.

While I was 'dissertating' a proper response,,,,, the phone rang.
The un-named caller asked about my service problem,,, and I rattled the story in full detail.
144 minutes later, the problem mysteriously went away.
Plus, my 'old' multi-port ARRIS-cable-modem will be returned via the service department.

Have a nice day.

Aren't miracles wonderful ?
This response is coming to you at double-speed(55) as the old wifi(28).
