Connectivity problem with Mandrake Linux 10.1 LAN/WAN/Samba Server

Hello.

Whenever I try to send a large file.. say over 100Mb to my Mandrake Linux 10.1 box, from Windows XP, I get "timed out" after only 9 minutes into the transfer. I've tried switching Nic Cards and get the same results.
I have no software based firewalls running internally.

When this happens , the whole network system on the Mandrake box
goes down, there is a red icon on the taskbar that says "network is down check your configuration".
When this happens I can not connect to any computer,
from the Mandrake box, And I cannot connect to the internet cloud.
I have to reset the Mandrake computer.

If I'm just surfing internet on the Mandrake computer locally, I have no problems.

It seems to me, that any large packets of "data" wings up the mandrake box.. I don't know if there are any settings that I could tweak.
Maybe.. like a MTU setting?
Thanks for reading this and any suggestions that you might have...

My Hardware on the Linux Mandrake box:
I have two pci Nic cards.
One One Realtek(Netgear) uses RTL-8169 Mod.
And a 3Com 3c905B uses Cyclone Mod.
The nics cards are set to static I.P.'s. They go to a Nat Router.

My computer is a AMD Duron 1.3Ghz with a gig of ram.
A 10 gig hard drive for the primary. And a 80 gig hard drive that is secondary, for the Samba Server.

Thanks Again.

Can I say I have a similar problem. I can connect to to my Samba server with wondoze clients and can do pretty much any thing with it. However if i mount the samba server share with smb4k in mandrake 10.1 and try to open a document with any application, the mandrake client grinds to a halt. I also have trouble with copying large quantities of data between a mandrake client and my samba server. After a few minutes, the whole thing dies.....

Thanks for sharing your similar problem with me..

If some one can tell me, where I can modify the MTU setting of my
nic cards that would be great, because I would like to see if that has something to do with my problem.

Thanks.

Exclamation I Fixed my problem, Happy!

I decided to format all my partitions on my primary drive, I installed mandrake 10.1 again,
then transfered all my samba config files back via ssh/scp

I "still" had the same stall out problems.

What I then did, is deleted all my Linux partitions on the primary drive, installed again,
and then I only transfered my original " smb.conf " file and not the other samba files that I backed up, and it works! No more stall out from Windows XP client to Samba Server..
things are fast and normal as before! Very happy

I have a 80 gig drive with fat32 loaded on it, as a secondary drive on my linux box.
I use it to back up files from my windows client boxes on to it.

Samba is a Very nice file server.

I hope that the above might help some other people with the same problem.

Happy
