Connection remains flagged as ESTABLISHED even if remote host is unconnected

Hi all,

I am experiencing issues with TCP timeout and I am testing it with two hosts which I manage.

I have already followed the instructions listed here:

http://tldp.org/HOWTO/TCP-Keepalive-...keepalive.html

but, even if the changes are applied successfully to the files, executing netstat, from host #1 I always see the connection of host #2 marked as ESTABLISHED, even if this is unconnected.

The connection (from netstat output) only disappears if I unplug the ethernet adapter.

Is really the TCP timeout my solution ?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

May I ask what exactly the problem is?
How do you define unconnected?

Some more background might be useful
