Connect to the internet with a belkin router.....What do i have to do??????
Help. I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 router. It is connected to my cable modem, and my linux computer is connected to the router with a cat5 ethernet cable. My Suse Linux 9.1 Personal picks up the network interface card, but nothing else. I can browse computers on my network, but cant connect to the internet. I called up tech support and they said i needed to configure things and to get help online. So can anyone give me instructions on how to get on the internet?????
(P.S. - Can you tell me if there are any AOLs for linux?????????)
I dont know why, but those commande arent working. I am using SuSe Linux 9.1 Personal with KDE 3.3 ( ithink 3.3. Whatever it is, its the newest version.)
For dial up there is http://www.peng.apinc.org/eng/index.php but with a cable connection you do not need anything special. Just install the AOL software and select connect using broadband (CABLE/DSL/ISP).
first, michael, there are no Aols 4 linux ( thanx anyway), as i just found out. Second of all, for the other guy, if config gave me output about eth0 and lo. I cant paste it cause i am working with 2 computers. second route -n just gave me one line, no real data, and the cat command said that there was no directory. What do i do now
My minds off somewhere else... your correct there isn't a verison for linux.
If you can browse other computers on the network then your network card must be configured correctly. Did you configure the card with DHCP or a static IP. Did you configure the gateway to your router's IP address (internal)

on my belkin you just have to set the ip ranges 192.168.1.x - xx and the the windows and linux machines have to be set to dhcp the rest is done by itself.
But AOL ..
Theoretically if you have the router between and your cable or adsl modem and your windows can pull the 192.168.1.x from the router your linux should do it too.
truly, i dont know what to say. All i did was connect teh ethernet cables and thats it. It was kinda like plug and play. My rrouters ip is 192.168.2.1, and when i clcked teh link u gave me it took a while to load, but i thimnk its right. I am not sure about port 88 though. I have 2 computers connected at a time and one laptop with a Belkin wireless card. THats all i know. Sorry. Please help.
