computer switches from static to dhcp address (automagically?)

Hi guys,

I have a workstation running Fedora Core 2 (Kernel 2.6.5-1.358smp). About two days ago I tried to ssh and ping it but i got no response, which made me this computer's
system crashed or was having some kind of problem.

I went to the office where this computer is and noticed it was working fine! ... I was able to
connect to other computers in the network but when i executed the ifconfig command, I
realized that this computer was uysing a dhcp address instead its static ip address.

As far as I now, nobody but only the user (which doesn't have root access) has been using
that computer. I took a look on the network configuration files and they weren't changed at
all. I restarted the network service, which meant the machine was again using its static ip
address...but today at about 10:30 AM...the ip address got switched to dhcp again. I have to say that this computer was working fine for the past 2(more or less) months.

Looking at the messages file i found this entry:

10:34:59 <machine name> kernel: eth0: Setting full-duplex based on MII#1 link partner capability of cde1.

Any comments?

Thx a lot in advance.

that should not be happening.. try denying all acess (system acess.. user acess.. all acess) to the program dhcpcd and that might solve your problem. as to what is causeing it.. no idea.. but that might solve the problem.
