Cannot view internet pages

Hi guys,

Just installed Fedora Core 3 and I have a router/modem setup with ethernet to linux box and wireless to an XP box. I can access the internet fine from the XP box (hence writing this), but I cannot load any pages in linux. I have noticed that up2date was able to download packages from the internet when i updated, and i presume that because the xp box is fine that the router's settings are perfect. I would therfore like to know how i can go about setting up the linux box correctly for my networking purposes. If it's any help, i think that the IP of the 192.168.1.3, with default gateway as 192.168.1.1. Previously, i had xp on the linux box and that had an ip of 192.168.1.2, so i'm presuming that the linux box should/will have the same.

thanks, tom

What web browser do you use? If you are using Firefox, you may want to try setting the connection so that it recognises 192.168.1.1 as the gateway, or (as it is on my Linux box) just put it as if there is a "direct connection" to the internet. Can you ping your gateway (I'm guessing you can as you can use up2date)? Can you ping google.com? If you can ping both of those, then your problem lies in your web browser, which we should be able to fix.

P.S I hope you don't mind, but when I had Fedora Core 3 all it gave me was trouble. Switching to Ubuntu made my world go round! You could also try upgrading to Fedora Core 4 - I dont' know what that's like though.

fedora\rhel & Firefox\Thunderbird & 3 Tricks

(1) Try disabling IPv6 if enabled

(2) Ensure SELinux & Firewall\IPChanins are disabled, especially if you don't know how they work

(3) ensure that your DNS \ \etc\resolv.conf has at least 1 DNS entry of yuour ISP, NOT your Router, even if Windows doesn't

(4) If all else fails, download the latest RPM for your app
