Cannot access system via hostname

Hi all,

I've setup Redhat 9 with Samba and it's all working quite nicely, however I can't access the shares or apache or even ping the box from another machine using the hostname. It works fine if I use the IP address, but then windows doesn't trust the computer over a network and whenever I run a program over the network it asks me if I want to 'open', etc.

The redhat 9 box can ping itself using it's hostname, but like I said it can't be pinged using it's hostname by others.

Any ideas?

it looks to me that you have a DNS problem. In windows you can add the list hostname in winnt/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file, in linux: /etc/hosts file
add there the hostnames you want to translate to IPs
