Can a Linux node be placed on a Windows network?

Something I was wondering about. I work from a U.S. Government computer, and the USG network is comprised entirely of windows machines. Could a Linux box be placed on the network without configuring anything anywhere aside from that computer, and have access to all the same network resources that any other computer would have?

Vague question gets vague answer. Yes. Do you mean a windows domain? Yes as well.

Networks don't care what OS the devices on them are running, so yes, you can mix Windows and Linux on a network.

However, your network administrators may have policies in place preventing unapproved devices from connecting. Or your higher ups may have business policies in place banning anything not Windows.
