Can't use phone hotspot

I have two phones here. Phone 1 has a chip with a data plan. Phone 2 has no chip. I enable the Wifi hotspot on Phone 1, connect to it with Phone 2 over WiFi and Internet works just fine on Phone 2.

Now, when I connect my Linux desktop to Phone 1 over WiFi, it connects but Internet doesn't work. I can't ping any address. Any explanation for that? Maybe something wrong with the routing?
TIA

Hard to tell from a distance, but the fact that you can tether phone 2 is a good sign. Whe your Linux host connects, check the following and report back.

Check the IP configuration is as expected and a default route exists...
Code:
ip address
Code:
ip route
Let's see if a valid nameserver is present...
Code:
grep name /etc/resolv.conf
From that information we should be able to advise further.

Any sort of firewall running either on your phone or on your computer or both?

If phone one and phone 2 are on same company them maybe dns is causing it.??

Try also command dig/nslookup maybe to see??

I think I'd also try usb tether if available.
