I took your advice... I launched minicom and when i got to the prompt i typed help. Heh, guess what? It repeated the available commands menu... Not much help huh?
I was looking through the Provider Setup in YaST (i'm running SuSe) and I noticed a box called "stupid mode." It's description was "...disable detection of terminal prompts..." or some jazz. I checked that box, and boom! WzDial connected and I was hooked up and ready to go!
Yes, 9.6k would be consistent, but that's because T-Mobile CSD(circuit switched data) limits fax and data calls over their network to 9600(9.6k). bummer, huh?
I tried with my friend's Alltel phone... 14.4k, little better, but the acutal data throughput was slower... Strange, probably something with Altel's network..
If you're interested in connecting like i do over a cell phone (handy for laptop users like myself) you can get totaly free internet access from
www.nocharge.com (or if you live in Seattle). T-Mobile allows CSD connections, so does Alltel... 2.4.21-rc1 and later has support for motorola usb phone modems. It just uses your normal minutes.... kinda handy
