can't see win 2000 printer in suse 9.3

Am using SuSE 9.3 and an HP printer on a Windows 2000 pro machine
not really experienced in linux or cups
searched forums about having to add printer via cups ip
however when i try to add it tells me i have to logon to gain access
i've tried to login as every user including root on my machine as well as the administrator on the other-- what do i need to do?-- what am i trying to?...I don't understand what cups is
please help me to use this printer
btw: no problem finding/accessing the machine via the /smb (?samba) folder, I can see all shared folders except one without standard shared name---don't know if that means anything

To use the CUPS web interface you need to add a valid linux user as administrator. In a shell as root use
Code:
lppasswd -a <user>
and enter password when prompted. This will then be what you need when running the CUPS Web interface.
