I had problem with my redhat 9.0 that install on my labtop. i tried to connect to the internet through the company lan but with no reply at all.
i am using dhcp to get ip address, and i can ping the dns, i also found if i ping something like yahoo.com, the name can be resolved into correct ip address. i just simply get no reply from the internet.
i have tried to disable my firewall just in case something got blocked, but same result. sad!!
I tried check if the dhcp client service if running at my labtop with ps -ax |grep dhcpcd, but i got no match in the list except this command itself. is that means my dhcp client is not working. but how come i can still got ip address from dhcp server.
Remember a dsl/cable connection is "always on".
So make sure Suse/Linux is not trying to
dial out or use a PPPoe connection. The (Linksys) router should have the DSL PPoe settings/configuration or no settings if using a cable modem and not the Linux/RH/Suse. Alls you need is the eth0 (NIC) activated.
If no go re-boot the cable mdm, then the router and see if it conncts.
thanks guy, initially my company doesn't has a proxy. they just put one on yesterday. i tried to setup a proxy on my web brower and it is still not working. but i can ping my proxy i also can connect to PCs in the lan.

If you have name resolution and you can ping the gateway and the nameserver and the proxy, then I don't think you are having issues with your LAN settings.
have you tried using another browser like Links or Lynx ? You will need to set a proxy for them as well. If one of those works, then its a problem with your browser application.
I think i have found out the problem is on my ISA proxy server. my linux box is not able to authenticate with the ISA. i set up all the http proxy settings on the web brower but there is no pop-up window for me to fill in the the user detail.
