Cable modem won't work under slackware after getting a new IP
I tried setting up a linux based router for my network, failed, and after the router fetched a new IP address and netmask, when I plugged my slackware desktop back in, it couldn't get a network connection.
I tried running dhclient, netconfig and dhclient-script, and nothing worked
Yet, when I go and reboot into Knoppix it has no problems getting an IP address, netmask, and everything else it needs to connect to the internet.
Can anyone either recommend a good resource on networking to me to help me figure out how to fix my box, or tell me a list of commands i should do, or otherwise provide some advice?
Well this isn't about the router. I tried creating a router, and it failed. But the network configuration changed, and I can't figure out how to update my network configuration under slackware. Under Knoppix it's really easy, just run the netcardconfig script, but it uses Debian config packages that I can't find for slackware. So, once settings have changed, how do I force my slackware box to update?
You can change that all in the /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file. That should get you back on track. After that either reboot or type /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart
