This question has probably been asked before but i searched the forum archives and couldnt find it. I had my router box running redhat 7.2 for a year or so basically it handled routing and firewalling for my home network. It recently decided to die. unrecoverable filesystem corruption and the like. I downloaded redhat 9 and the md5sum's werent correct so i dug out my copy of 7.3. I got 7.3 installed and everything configured pretty much identical to the 7.2 system except for 1 major problem. eth0 which is a kingston nic will NOT pick up an ip address with dhcp from my service provider. I have reinstalled and updated dhcpd and dhcpcd enabled everything and configured everything like it should be but whether it's on boot or if i try to bring it up manually it WILL NOT pick up an IP and therefore wont get online. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

have you tried unpluging the modem from the power then pluging it back in to clear the DHCP table stored in the modem?

Make sure that your router is compatible with Linux, if you're using one. If so, then find out whether it is assigning one IP address for DHCP or more than one.

Yes, i did reboot the modem, several times actually. Im not using a router, the linux box is my router basically. I figured out what the problem was but it doesnt make much sense. In redhat 7.2 and all versions before that the first network card(eth0) want connected to the cable modem. The second network card(eth1) was connected to a switch on my internal network. With redhat 7.3 and up for some reason it decided it wanted to address my nic's backwards. Thus eth1 is now on the cable modem and eth0 is now on the network. I dont know why or understand why this all of a sudden decided to happen but thats what it was. The to nic's im using btw are a Kingston 10/100(was eth0, now addressed as eth1) and an intel eepro 10/100(was eth1 nos addressed as eth0). just so you'll know in case you happen to run in to this problem.
