Broadcast route dissapeared

For some reason my broadcast route has disapeared. When I try to telnet to my RedHat 7.2 router, it takes about 20 seconds for the login prompt to appear.

The machine is routing, and DNS Caching perfectly.

The route that I'm missing is:

255.255.255.255 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 eth1

IFCONFIG shows that the UP BROADCAST is set. I have restarted and rebooted, but no luck.

The only thing that I have changedin the past month, is the forwarders in the DNS.

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think you need a broadcast route. You should still be able to broadcast on the network broadcast address of eth1 (such as 192.168.1.255 or something).

I suspect there is a problem with DNS. Can you telnet to the ip address of the router?

Broadcast route dissapeared

The router and the DNS caching server are the same server.

I allways telnet by IP address to the inside NIC(192.168.1.1).

More info:

I noticed that the two NIC's were on the same IRQ. I got them on different IRQ's, but still the same proble.

TIA.

How long does ping take?
Try a reverse lookup on the ip address: "host 192.168.1.1" or "dig -x 192.168.1.1". If that takes a while, make sure to define the router in /etc/hosts or in your DNS server.
