bringing up the eth0 failed on boot

hi all,

I may have the same problem as others about their eth0 interface. I usually work offline with my linux(mdk 10.0 CE) box and even I set my network card to have the static IP address, the interface still can't be brought up at the boot time.

However, If i run "ifconfig eth0" there is no IP address shown, and to make it shown, I have to run "ifup eth0" first.

Any solution to run "ifup eth0" at boot time automatically?

Thanks before hand!

Udd

i dont know where your eth0 config file is. but in redhat systems this file is in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory. "ifcfg-eth0"
find the file and edit, change the following line:

ONBOOT=yes

second way u can add "ifup eth0" in your startup script (in redhat, /etc/rc.d/rc.local)

thanks alot Maxut! i checked the "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0" file and I got "ONBOOT=yes". But still when I reboot the box, bringing up the interface fails. I don't really know why. I append "ifup eth0" to "/etc/rc.d/rc.local" and it still can't bring up eth0 on boot.

don't really know what happens then???

check /etc/sysconfig/network file. i dont run linux now. so i cannot check this file now. there must be an option like "networking = yes".

Alternately, you could look in dmesg since it happens at boot.
something like 'dmesg | grep eth0' should show you the appropriate whining.
