bittorrent port blocked by server- How to bypass?

Hello!
I m using Internet service provided by a guy here in our town with STP cable spread over the town and a RHL 9.0 Server at his office configured as Proxy Server using SQUID. I can't use any p2p software on both Linux or windows. It seems he has blocked all the ports used by p2p softwares. Can anyone told me how to bypass this port blocked status?

a) How to list all the open ports on my Server having [IP: 10.0.0.1] in my LAN?
b) How to use any open port for my p2p client?

First you might want to read your terms of service. If using p2p software isn't prohibited, then check the documentation for your client on how to use a different port. You can list listening ports using netstat. You can also use nmap on another host on the lan to test your server.

could u plz use a briefing method. M not also a guru . I have tried using a couple of p2p client also on XP but no one worked. So it seems my gateway+transperent-proxy server has blocked all the ports used by p2p clients.

No wwhat is want is that

m at 10.0.0.x and my server is at 10.0.0.1

what is the command to checkout a specific port status OR all available ports on 10.0.0.1

Can I configure my p2p client e.g BitTorrent to use an existing open port of let's say the 80 port taht's used for www and is always open for clients.

expecting a simple answer for a newbie

In ktorrent you can set the port you use in the configuration. It may not work for a lower number port ( < 1024 ), but 8080 is usually not blocked.

You can use the netstat command to list listening and established ports. You can also use nmap.
nmap -sT 10.0.0.1
will perform a simple TCP port scan. You can also use a range of IPs on your subnet:
nmap -sT 10.0.0.1-20

Since you are only interested in verifying that a particular port is open, sometimes the lowly telnet client will work as well.

For example, to do a quick check to see if port 22 (ssh) is open,
telnet 10.0.0.1 22

I don't know if you would see any type of response for bit torrent. I haven't tried it before.
