Bind Dynamic DNS + OpenVPN

Hello,

I am trying to find information that will help me setup OpenVPN to update bind DNS. I would like to be able to connect to my clients using their-host-name.vpn.mydomain.tld instead of 10.109.0.x.

I have the ipp.txt file in /etc/openvpn and could setup DNS by hand, but I would rather it be done automatically.

I tried searching Dynamic DNS Openvpn on google, but all I found was push-option dns ( which I think is to specify a DNS server to the connecting client) and tutorial's that resemble the services provided by no-ip.org, but for the public address not the vpn address.

Thanks,

David

I presume you have a local DNS server. I think there are a number of ways you could do it but probably the simplest is to write a script that uses nsupdate to update the DNS server zones and call it from an openvpn script using either the learn-address script command or alternatively client-connect and client-disconnect scripts. Either of these methods pass parameters to the script file including the client name and IP address.

I've set up a basic learn-address script which just logs connect/disconnect times for clients but extending it to update my DNS server would be straightforward. Unfortunately my clients are called client1, client2 etc so it wouldn't benefit me much!
