auto mount windows share

I'm able to successfully mount a windows share using:
smbmount //host/share /mount/point

I have been unsuccessful at getting this share to auto mount on a reboot. I have added the command to both the rc.local file and the fstab file per internet newsgroups without success.

I have included the user=guest parameter to avoid a password conflict/issue but that has not helped.

Upon a reboot, before the host login (level 3), I am prompted for a password, I have temporarily removed the password from the windows and hit the return. The mount is not successful but immediately after logging in, I am able to run the command and hit return (no password) and am successful.

Is there a correct or preferred file for the command?

What is the syntax to successfully complete the command at startup?

Any help with this simple but frustrating task would be appreciated!

try searching the site for a phrase such as "smbfs fstab" should get you plenty of similar questions
