The driver for atheros chipsets is ath9k, which should be present in most recent kernels. According to the linux wireless
ath9k page that chipset should be supported. Does your wifi card appear in the list? Type "iwconfig" in a console and post the output.
Please see what your kernel log has to say about it (type "dmesg" in your shell). See, if you can find any messages about a missing firmware? I've recently used an atheros USB wifi dongle, and I had to install a firmware file for it to work.
