I hope I'm in the right forum. As I'm still quite new to the world of Linux I always find it a bit hard to find out... If I'm at the wrong place I want to apologise!
I' running a SuSE9.0 machine with Samba 3.0.2a as a PDC. A few days ago I added some Samba users with "smbpasswd -a username password" and that was all working fine.
Now the smbpasswd command isn't found anymore. A colleague of mine had the idea that the reason for that might be some updates I have done (automatically via Yast Online Update - so I don't really now what I have updated...). He said that the command smbpasswd shall be displaced by the command net.
So my questions are: how can I add samba users?
a) could it be, that smbpasswd is not working anymore as it is displaced by the net command?
if not, how can I get the smbpasswd command going again?
or if a) is true:
b) how do you use the net command? (I looked at the man page, but somehow can't find out how to do it - seem not to be experienced or clever enough - Sorry!)
Sorry, maybe I'm just not getting what you mean.
I'm getting a list (see below) of locations where smbpasswd is, but even changing to that locations and trying to use that command always results in the same message ("command not found")...
I guess that /etc/samba/smbpasswd is the file where samba stores it's passwords. The other one I don't know what it is since I don't use Suse. But you can give it a try entering /etc/gpm/samba/ and typing ./smbpasswd (as root).
If that does not work I'm afraid you must use Yast to reinstall samba
