Accessing a Router from linux comp

Hi, I want to open a router terminal in a linux box, do i need to install any Pkgs before that, & dont know the commands which will be used in linux to work on Router Privilage mode.

can some one help....

which router?
how do you want to connect, via webinterface, serial cable...

For the web interface, surf to the ip from the router
Via serial cable, you need to use minicom

In deferent sinario's how should I, like TELNET, SSH, FTP, SAMBA etc....

mos routers offer a web GUI. you just need to enter the routers IP in your preferred browser and login using the right credentials.

Serial cable, console access would be via minicom

Other than that telnet, or preferably ssh if it's been configured.

What type of router are we talking about, Commercial or Consumer ?
Who is the manufacturer ? Cisco, nortel, adtran, linksys, Dlink, etc..

Its an Cisco, Commercial Router. As we configure nomally in Windows through Terminal

Setting up the " Enable Password"

Setting up the "Telnet Password"

Setting up the "Enable Secret Password"

Telnet Exit Time Out,

Console Password,

Setting Up the Inteface Ip's like Eth0 , S0 , S1 Etc.

If the cisco is not configured yet,
you need the blue cable, and minicom.
If telnet is enabled, you can use telnet and the network cable.
